What’s up everyone! I want to speak on the clothing brand called Break I was introduced to recently. This past weekend, I was fortunate enough to be invited to a dance battle in Williamsburg. If you have been a reader of this website before the hiatus, I interviewed some of the guys who are currently making Break in their previous brand called Japanese Girlfriend. There has been a smooth transition from JGLimited to Break maintaining the originality with a dash of subtle flair the group has made their staple formula. Break is all about the B-boy culture within the cities of New York City and beyond. It embodies the gritty nature of battling on the blacktops with high-risk moves and ungodly feats to score victories for the team. For someone like myself, I had a lot to learn about the culture and more while I sat watching the competition.
To be honest, one competition is not enough to fully get b-boy culture. I have watched dance movies but seeing the action up close was a totally different experience. From people spinning on the floor to quickly elevating into flips in the air, I have to say this allowed me to understand why dance is such a beloved way of life for people. The two on two battles kept me on the edge of my seat. Some of the heartbreaking losses were touching while the come from behind victories felt exhilarating to see. After a few hours of battling, we eventually came across our winners (see image below) who really wanted this win. These two put so much into their sets to engage the crowd and you have to appreciate the energy.
I had a great time and strongly suggest you check out Break and the brand’s products when you get the chance!
